Many people avoid making appointments to see a dentist until they are feeling pain and discomfort with their teeth or gums. Through regular visits as directed by the dentist you may be able to avoid such pain and prevent the occurrence of long term dental problems and early detection of oral diseases whilst maintaining your teeth and oral health.
Dental check-ups that are advised by the dentist may vary between 6 months to 1 year depending on the health of your teeth and gums.
What Happens At A Dental Check-Up?
During your visit the dentist will perform and oral examination looking for the following signs of:
- Cracks, Decay, wear and Erosion
- Gum disease and Bone loss
- Signs of grinding
- Cosmetic appearance of your teeth
Dental X-Rays
The dentist may also need to take Radiographic images of your teeth – Radiographs more commonly known as X-rays are to be taken every 2 years as recommended by the Australian Dental Association to ensure optimum teeth and gum health for all our patients. This process allows the dentist to see areas in between your teeth that are not visible to the naked eye, for example: possible decay in between the teeth as well as bone health.
After your examination and x-rays if required your Dentist will clean your teeth with an Ultrasonic Scaler:
- Designed to remove build up called calculus on the surfaces of all your teeth
- Your teeth will then be polished with a fluoride peppermint flavoured paste, leaving your teeth smooth and shiny.
